The region called "Poniente" (Sun-down), in the province of Almería, is famous for being the vegetable garden of Europe in the winter. During the winter months, the Poniente district is under great pressure due to the enourmous activity caused by the growing, picking, sorting, packing and loading of the produce of tomatoes, haricot, beans, eggplants, cucumbers, courgettes, bell peppers, melons and water melons.

Thanks to the exceptcional climate of the Poniente of Almería, the greenhouses produce vegetables during the long winter months. Enjoying soft temparatures and mostly sunny weather the export can go on full swing whilst Northerm Europe endures short cold gray days and icy winds.
